JHA BARREL SHOW RULES

Please read carefully

1.) Riders or parent are to sign up for themselves on all entry sheets. Full names given on horse and rider. A negative coggins is required for all horses entered in series. Riders will provide proof of age by birth certificate or drivers license. Late entries will not be accepted once class has started. Payment is due at time of entry.
2.) A rider may ride more than one horse, but same horse/same rider for points. No changing riders or horses or points will start over on that rider and horse. Family members living under same roof can ride same horse in individual class. Points will count on each rider and horse combo. Horses or ponies led through the pattern will receive a participation ribbon for that show, but will not accrue points.
3.) Inclement weather will result in cancellation of the above show. Time and date of the make up show will be determined at the following JHA Board of Directors meeting or special meeting by the Barrel Committee. If all divisions finish three events, it will be considered a complete with no money refunded.
4.) Proper show attire required for show at all times. No exceptions! Shirts without sleeves must have collars. No midrifts or halter tops. Shirts must be buttoned and long enough to be tucked into pants. Full lengthed pants and proper foot attire must be worn. Helmets are mandatory for all riders under eighteen years of age both in the ring and outside the ring while on horse.
5.) Pony riders must be 10 years of age or younger at beginning of the current series year. Ponies must be 13.2 hands or under as of the first show entered. All ponies in question will be measured at beginning of barrel series. Larger ponies must enter twelve and under class.
6.) Riders must be ready to enter the holding pen as their classes are announced. Riders have the choice to start their event in the arena or from the chute in the holding pen. A rider will be disqualified for running out of order. It is the riders responsibility to know his or her draw position. NO warming up horses while in the holding pen.
7.) Riders will have a sixty second gate call to get their horse in the arena. The gate call is from the time the riders name is announced to the time they go through the gate. If a rider cannot get through the gate in the sixty second time limit, the rider will receive a no time and next rider will be called. NO exceptions. Re-rides will be allowed due to timer malfunctions or other JHA series equipment. No re-rides for missed patterns or broken tack.
8.) Barrel classes will be pony (10 and under), twelve and under, thirteen to eighteen, nineteen to forty and forty and over. Rider must be proper age at beginning of current series year. JHA barrel series patterns will be cloverleaf, texas, hairpin and poles. The events will be run in that order. It will be $20.00 for all four events or $6.00 each event.
9) Each event if five riders or more per division will receive a JHA trophy for 1st place and ribbons for 2nd through 6th place. Points are accumulated as follows first=6, second=5, third=4, fourth=3, fifth=2 and sixth=1. High point show for each division will pay Town & Country gift certificate to 1st place, 2nd place and 3rd place per class.
10) A five second penalty per barrel or pole knocked over. Hairpin knocked over results in no time. Any deviation of the pattern or no forward motion results in no time. Riders who miss the pattern or knock down a barrel or pole may complete the pattern for practice purposes only. If a rider intentionally knocks over apparatus, points will be forfeited for that event. Once a pattern is set and class has started, pattern cannot be altered. Only after a knock down can a barrel or pole be realigned.
11) Year end awards presented to top 3 riders in each of the five divisions. In the event of a tie, a run-off will be held at the end of the last show. An event will be drawn by the barrel director for the run off event. The results of that run-off will determine the winner. To be eligible for year end awards, a rider must have ridden in at least 4 of 6 barrel series shows within their eligible division per show. First place will be a custom, hand made breast collar with headstall , second place a rhinestone belt , third place embroidered
tack bag.
12) Jackpot will always be 4-D format, off the fastest time. Jackpot times will not roll over to riders class. Payouts according to NBHA standards 80/20. Ten or more entries are necessary to run jackpot. Exhibitions will run from 2:30pm to 3:30pm, and will be $3.00 each or two for $5.00. Only one exhibition rider in arena at a time. There will be no practicing during exhibition. Jackpot will begin at 4:00pm and the entry fee will be $20.00. No late entries will be taken.
